English Language for Absolute Beginners

Our Story

In 2015, Canada made a decision to accept a large number of refugees, mainly from Syria. Of course, they needed to learn English!

The following lesson plans were developed in response to groups who took on the task of sponsoring refugees. A program was needed to provide English Language instructions to those who had arrived in Canada with little or no English language skills and, in some cases, little or no education in their native language. It was quickly discovered that, despite the many ESL programs available, few met the needs of the absolute beginner.

We have provided a set of lessons to meet the needs of the absolute beginner English language learner and their teachers, many of whom are volunteers.

It is our desire that the lessons provided here will serve to make it easier for new English learners and those who strive to teach them. We are based in Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada.
